I was a professional musician for most of my life but got out of that business as I approached forty. I never knew much about Burt Bacharach other than I knew he’d written some hit songs – that was the extent of my knowledge of Burt Bacharach. I don’t mean it in a negative way, at all, but I simply had no interest in this man. I never thought about Burt Bacharach – ever, for any reason. I knew the guy was a song writer…period.
But, on February 7th of 2023 while sitting at my computer I suddenly started thinking about the guy – for some reason. Specifically, I was wondering if he was still alive. Why? Man, I have no idea – no idea at all. I did some searches and found that he was alive and well. I remember thinking, “Wow – that’s cool. The guy is in his 90’s and still alive.
The next morning my wife and are sitting at our computers and she’s reading the news. She says to me, “Gosh, that’s too bad – Burt Bacharach died.” I started to correct her – I mean, I knew he was alive YESTERDAY, right? I glance at her computer screen and, well, she was completely correct – he had died on the 8th of February. I told her that I had specifically searched the web to see if he was alive the previous day – and I took a screenshot of my search as proof. It all felt very, very weird.
